Woodbridge resident Alejandro Tranquilino Hernandez, 40, was held overnight in Stafford County after being arrested for alleged intoxicated driving near the Rodney Thompson Middle School on Walpole Road, according to officials.
Shortly before 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, deputies from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office are called to Walpole Road, where there was a call of a reported possibly drunk driver in the area.
Upon arrival, a sheriff’s deputy said that he found Hernandez’s vehicle driving in the opposite lanes before attempting to make a U-turn using the sidewalk.
During the subsequent traffic stop, officials say that Hernandez had lethargic movements and “the unmistakable odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath."
To make matters worse for Hernandez, he also had several empty cans of alcohol in the passenger’s seat of his vehicle, and there were multiple full cans being kept safe in a baby seat in the back of his car, according to police.
Hernandez was taken into custody without incident and charged with:
- Driving under the influence;
- Failure to maintain the lane of travel;
- Failure to maintain control of a vehicle;
- Refusal (to submit to a breathalyzer).
He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail pending his sobriety. No initial court date has been announced.
